i love doing school visits!

I’m available for school visits for either (or both!) of my books: Golden Gate Park, An A to Z Adventure or Little Gray’s Great Migration.

Please read on to learn more about my interactive talks about Golden Gate Park or California gray whales. Contact me for rate information and to start planning your school’s event(s)!

GOLDEN GATE PARK TALKS

Golden Gate Park has it all: history, art, nature, and play.

My standard visit includes reading my book followed by an interactive presentation where we go back in time in Golden Gate Park, plus explore all the ecosystems, animals, and plants you can find in the park.

I also have activities for kids to create their own A to Z book about something they love and a mini art-lesson in drawing using shapes. The visit is aimed at kids 6-10.

I’m also happy to meet you in the park if you’re doing a field trip.

NOTE: I really like to do book signings at school visits. Ideally your classroom will send home an order form and contact a local bookstore or my publisher West Margin Press to do a special order of Golden Gate Park, An A to Z Adventure for interested students before my event.

WHALE TALKS

I've done many classroom and school events focused on the California gray whale, and am happy to tailor a presentation to your classroom or school's specific needs.

My standard presentation is one I developed for talks I did at the California Academy of Sciences. This includes reading my picture book, Little Gray’s Great Migration, and then an approximately 30-minute interactive presentation about the Pacific gray whale using the story as a framework. It’s especially good for kids ages 6-10.

Because Little Gray’s Great Migration integrates a lot of science into this fictional tale, I can also talk with students about the research and writing process for the book, plus help kids craft their own science-inspired story.

NOTE: I really like to do book signings at school visits. Ideally your classroom will send home an order form and contact a local bookstore or my publisher Arbordale to do a special order of Little Gray’s Great Migration for interested students before my event.

Both educational and engaging! My students were even more jazzed to help whales after Marta’s visit.
